MATHAPALOOZA FIELDTRIPS THAT COME TO YOU

Mathapalooza Playground

Students are provided with a selection of math-related toys and games to engage in mathematical explorations through play. A selection of stations will be set up for students to cycle through. This is a great way to spark your students’ curiosity and have fun with mathematics.
The activities at this event vary according to student level.
Possible reservations: k-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12 and adults.

Common Core Standards: Look for and make use of structure. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.

3D Building Puzzles

Explore building of 3D objects and polyhedra with a hands-on, building experience! Can you complete the 3D building challenges? Can you make bowls or balls using different polygons? Can you hunt for shapes among polyhedra? What different types of polyhedra can we build using different polygons?

The activities at this event vary according to student level.
Possible reservations: 3-5, 6-8, 9-12 and adults.

Related Common Core Standards: Analyze, compare, create, and compose shapes. Reason with shapes and their attributes. Draw and identify lines and angles, and classify shapes by properties of their lines and angles. Classify two-dimensional figures into categories based on their properties.

Space Filling Puzzles

Use polygons and a variety of different shapes to create beautiful tilings! What shapes can you combine to tile the plane? Can you tile with the same shapes in different ways? Find your very own tiling rules!

Games for patterns, arithmetic, logic and strategy

Students will engage in mathematical thinking by playing board games, card games and other games dealing with finding patterns, practicing arithmetic, exercising logic and strategy. Different selections of games will be chosen depending on student level. This field trip brings arithmetic and logic to your classroom as a fun game!

The activities at this event vary according to student level.
Possible reservations: 3-5, 6-8, 9-12 and adults.

Related Common Core Standards: Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. Reason abstractly and quantitatively. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
